Night terrors
I think my 20 month old is having night terrors -- he wakes up screaming and has a hard time being soothed. What can I do to help him? How long will it last?

We had a breif bout of night terrors, and they continue to occur somewhat infrequently.
"Night Terrors" has a fairly specific definition. Are you certain that's what they are, and not just bad dreams? When our son (3yrs) wakes up crying, it's usually either because he has to go to the bathroom, or he's talking about something that never really happened.
For example, we went out to his favorite restaurant last night for his birthday, and he woke up very early this morning crying and saying that he was sad that we didn't get to go to his favorite restaurant, and took a few minutes to settle down. I suspect that this was just a toddler-sized nightmare.

Sounds sad. Here's an article that helps distinguish night terrors from nightmares - if that's a question: http://www.parentingscience.com/night-terrors-in-children.html
