The emotional experiences of weaning for parents?

Did you encourage weaning? Or did you reluctantly give in to the child's disinterest in nursing? What did you do? How did mom take it? How did dad take it?

We are getting closer to weaning, and there's some mixed emotions.

I feel that my husband is sometimes jealous of nursing, and the way it is so emotionally comforting to the child. I know I will miss it when it's over.

My second weaned before I was ready (I reluctantly gave in), my first weaned much earlier and I was happy to be done (had a much more difficult experience with nursing the first time around). In both cases, I got the impression my husband was happy that phase was over. He was outwardly supportive, but - perhaps like the previous poster's husband - I think inwardly frustrated by the forced inequality when our roles were equal in so many other ways.
