Where to go abroad with young kids?
Maybe because it's summer, I find myself thinking about traveling. Not this year, but next.
Before we had kids, my husband and I got into the happy routine of taking a trip to somewhere we've never been every year. We managed to do it once since our kids were born, and would like to get back in the swing.
Where should we go? What would be fun, safe, doable, and enjoyable for all ages? Our ages next summer will be 39, 35, 4 and 2.
Thanks in advance!

We haven't done much traveling with our kids, but some of the places I've been that are kid-friendly are:
Nepal. No seriously. It is really expensive to get to but really cheap when you are there. (I think my plane ticket was $1600 and I spent less than $200 in the 3 weeks I was there.) I met some people traveling with their kids and they couldn't go 50 yards without someone cooing over them. There are some easy(ish) hikes and beautiful country.
Bora Bora. It is like the pleasure planet in _A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy_. It is so beautiful. Your younger one can dig on the beach. The older one can snorkel and see more fish than he would in an aquarium. You can take boat rides, go windsurfing, go on interesting walks. And I loved the blurring of the indoor and outdoor spaces. Some of the other islands (for reference, it is part of the Tahitian island chain) have cool cane fields you can walk through.
Italy. They love kids and there are any number of museums, churches, and cool little villages to trek through. Also some beaches.
England. There are lots of cool museums (Victoria and Albert which has mummies and Egyptian artifacts are very popular with the younger set), interesting churches, lots of sheep (try the Lake Country), interesting walks through the countryside. And, of course, it is easy to find parks.
I haven't been but Costa Rica is supposed to be great and kid-friendly.
I would also like to tout Turkey once your kids are a little older. It is an amazing place! So much to see and do. I want to take our kids when they are 4, 6, and 8.
Don't forget to check the State Department's website about travel warnings. Probably even more important to do with kids.

it doesn't have to be abroad. Just adventurous. Extra points if abroad, adventurous yet safe, and affordable ;)
