Peeing on the Floor

0 votes

Gak!  My 4-year old keeps peeing on the floor.  Sometimes just a little, sometimes a lot.  The problem seems to be that he gets distracted and doesn't pay attention to what he is doing.  So I'm wiping it up multiple times a day and actually cleaning every night.  It is very frustrating.  Any suggestions for getting him to pay more attention to what he is doing?

I always get my daughter to help clean (cooperative, not as in a punishment) when she misses the toilet.  I treat it like spilling something in the kitchen - we do it together, and I mention that maybe next time if she pays more attention/leans a different way/whatever the suggestion, then maybe she'll get it all in the toilet.  If she resists helping, I kindly remind her that she made the mess and I will help her clean it up.

I agree with the shared cleanup. We don't treat it like they did anything wrong, remind them that accidents do happen. And positively work on "next time, you really gotta try and listen to your body and make it to the bathroom on time". We expect them to help with the cleanup, even if it's some very small amount.

The potty training time was tough for us, but we noticed (at least in our 2 kids) drastically better response when we didn't show our frustration.

    Good luck!
