Have you ever taken your kid(s) to Las Vegas?

My husband has a conference to attend in Las Vegas.  He'll have some down time so I thought I might join him.  Our son will be almost 18 mos at that time.  I'm wondering if anyone has ever taken their kid(s) to Vegas?  Would it be fun for him to come with us or should we try to get him a reservation at Grandma and Grandpa's?

We took our son to Vegas with is when we went there for a wedding. He was about 13 months old at the time.

In our case, Grandma and Grandpa actually came too, since they live across the country but flights to Vegas were cheap. so it was a chance to watch him while we did wedding stuff, and it worked out nicely. There really wasn't anything for them to DO with him though, beyond use the hotel pool and walk around to see the various sites -- which almost always meant crossing through smoke-filled casinos to get anywhere.

Depending on your child, there may be a handful of things he would like by 18 months, such as the Shark Reef aquarium at Mandalay Bay or the kid rides at Circus Circus. Not a lot though.

Personally, I'd see if Grandma and Grandpa would like company. :-)

We took our son to Vegas when he was 15 mos and it was a bit of mixed bag. He wanted to run around everywhere but our hotel was really crowded. We discovered that the conference level of our hotel was not in use so he enjoyed running up and down the empty hallways. He really liked the swimming pool - the hotel had a shark tank in the middle and that was fascinating. He wanted to push buttons on the slot machines but we quickly learned that kids aren't allowed to touch them.

If I had known more about Vegas in advance, I would have stayed at the strip instead of downtown at the Golden Nugget. We brought the car seat but didn't end up using it much because it was a hassle to haul in cabs (which were expensive). He seemed to enjoy the botanical garden at Bellagio. Honestly, I think his highlight was playing with the buttons on the metal safe in the hotel room closet. Hope this feedback helps your decision making!
