Would you ever use a "Kids Cab" service?
I had never even known that places like this existed, but of course, if there's a need to be filled, then there's a business.
In our area, there's kidskab.com which is basically a Cab service, but for kids afterschool events. Would you ever trust and use such a service? With what ages?

Oh my gosh --- this actually exists ? it sounds like the ultimate in parental non-involvement. Being a bit " old school" I will say that if the child's parents, friends, other family members, or nanny cannot arrange the time to personally transport the child -- then perhaps the child should not be involved with the activity in question. If I had to resort to approving of such a service, the child would have to be well into the pre-adolescent years ( 12-13) and not before that. Cartoons come to mind.... Did Richie Rich travel with a chauffeur ?

I used to take a chartered shuttle bus occasionally starting in junior high, and my sister took it starting in elementary school. We were latchkey kids and it was a cushy alternative to the public bus or walking (which we also did a good amount of). I think if the company was reputable and had a partnership with the school, I would definitely consider using this kind of service if I were a full-time working parent withou access to family in the area or a nanny who drives.

I don't have a safety issue with it after about age 8 or so, but i don't know that it's something I would pay for, either. If I'm already paying $20 for some tennis lesson, and then I have to add in $30 for taxi fare? Getting crazy.
BTW, I've figured out that having an after=school babysitter at $16/hour is the best money you can spend, b/c you can have the babysitter
a) watch the kids
b) drive them around to tennis, soccer, gym
c) host playdates
d) do your kids' laundry
e) pick up the house, vaccuum
f) go grocery shopping in a pinch and pick up a few things
g) make sure the kids do their homework before I get home from work
f) get dinner started
This has completely changed my life. I actually pay our sitter (who is wonderful) for an extra hour from 6-7 so that she can stay and help out after I get home with all the chores. It's completely cost-effective.
