what kind of candy can toddlers handle
I am not generally into giving my toddler candy, but was wondering- what candy can toddlers eat, for special circumstances like birthdays?
I am planning to make a train cake for my daughter's 2nd birthday- each of the cars will have "cargo". My thoughts on this so far involve raisins (for coal), possibly m & ms for another train cargo car, maybe some animal crackers (for a third).
What I don't know is- are jelly beans a bad idea - or those fruit gummies? Seems like they would make for good cargo- but I don't want anyone choking! Also, any other thoughts you have on good candy or other toppings would be helpful.

There are some fruit snacks that I think are softer than the 'candy' variety. You could also try mini marshmellows. Another possibility would be dried fruit, cut into smaller pieces.
What about those butter mints that they usually have at restaurants that melt in your mouth?
I'd say no to jelly beans as they can be really hard.

All things like berries and small candies pose a choking hazard...so use caution. Raisins are a good idea!
How about...
Plain chocolate chips? (some kids may get hyper from the artificial colors in sweets)
Grapes? The mini marshmallows sound fun. Mandarin orange segments?
The train cake sounds lovely!
