Good Christmas DVDs and CDs

0 votes

We have two Christmas DVDs for the kids (3 and 5) but would like to get one or two more. Any suggestions?

Also, we have several CDs of Christmas music but would like some more. What are your favorites? We'd like singing, not just instrumental.

Thanks!

As a kid, we always listened to Mitch Miller. There are several albums, but I've just linked to one.

There are some more modern albums that are quite good. If I remember right, there's a pretty great Christmas album by Amy Grant as well.

You could also stick with "the classics" and go with something like Bing Crosby

DVDs, on the other hand, are harder to think of. There's the old stop-motion classics like Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, but I half remember trying to watch these as an adult and realizing that they're pretty bad.

I'd just stick with Miracle on 42nd street. :) I've heard Elf is pretty good, but I've never seen it.

We also once watched the somewhat creepy Polar Express which was a fair bit better than I thought it would be, and I found I actually liked the ending message, although the ending scenes were pretty bizarre.

    "Barenaked for the Holidays"

But, before you think I'm suggesting something off-color, it's the Barenaked Ladies. CD came out in 2004 but it's still one of my favorites. They do some of the old favorites, add some quirkiness to others. You can listen to previews on amazon first just to make sure you're okay with it for your kids.
