Potty training strategies?

0 votes

When is a good time to start potty training? We did some elimination communication when our girl was small (starting at 3 weeks) and had some rather amazing successes for a month or two. The next set of initial success was when she was 5 months and was sitting independently on the potty, reading a book and cranking out number twos. Since she started day care in September, she's been in disposables, and I thought she's forgotten much about her previous toilet savviness. But over the weekend, we got her pottied a few times and she seems to know what to do and when she's done.

Any suggestions when to move forward? Her nanny doesn't seem to believe in early pottying, but the other child in her care is already 2, and I'm wondering if they'll be ready for toilet training at the same time - that is, in the next year. So far the older kid is still just in diapers.

I recently came across an article about Julie Fellom in San Francisco who believes children are ready for potty training between 15-27 mos of age, and if your child is ready and you start on the early end, you might have success more quickly.

Here's the SFGate article on Fellom.

How time flies! Now at nearly 2 years, she's almost potty trained herself, taking example from older kids, runs to the toilet or potty for peeing. However, not so much luck with number twos. The poops don't seem to give as much warning, as a day in underpants had only one wet accident but two dirty accidents.

Any suggestions how to help her learn to anticipate number twos?

I'd suggest asking this as it's own question, as it's now for a different age and a slightly different question; plus more folks will see a new question than an answer to an old one...  We can link to the new question from here.
