When is the best time to move?
I hate where we live and we're planning on moving. Originally we were going to move before the oldest started K, but we didn't find a suitable place. So now he is in K. Do we move at the end of this school year? Give him two years at his school and then move in time for his brother to start K? Something else?

Depends on how far you are moving and what the school's rules are. If you are just moving to another part of town where he would be in the same district but a different elementary school you might be able to keep him in his current school till the end of the year. If the school won't let you do that or you are moving farther away then I would say yes, wait till the end of the school year. I had to move in the middle of the school year once (in fourth grade) as a kid and it is not fun. It was really hard to adjust to the new school, kids and curriculum. Also, kindergartners are not very mature and some have a hard time with change. My son is in first grade now and still has a hard time with change. I also wouldn't wait till the younger one is ready for K. It would be easier on the older one to move after only one year at that school. I also moved (during the summer) after K. That move was easier than the later one. If your child is at that school longer he will make stronger friendships and it will be harder to leave those friends.

I'd tend to think it's easier for the kids (and you) to move while they're younger. More time to make lasting friendships later, better chance of starting a new grade before lasting friendships or hard-core cliques are the norm.
This is just my bias, but if you or others in the family are really "hating" the current situation, then waiting to move seems like a recipe for unhappiness when happiness might actually be available. I'd suggest waiting only for the end of the school year for some time during the summer to settle in to the neighborhood and then a chance to start a new year at the same time as the rest of the kids.
Of course, around here with real estate what it is, I think it would be rather hard to actually time a move. Good luck!
