Books for a 5-year old boy

0 votes

Does anyone have suggestions for books for a 5-year old boy who likes to read? The books should have a plot, but one that is fairly easy to follow.

One of my personal favorites: "You Can Do Anything, Daddy!" by Michael Rex. My son happens to like it too. :)

I have a 4-year-old, and here are two books he picked himself recently (from a gift certificate he got for his birthday). He can't get enough of them:

Leonardo the Terrible Monster by Mo Willems (Amazon)

    and

    Robot Zot! (Amazon)

    Stephen M.

When I was a kid I really loved the Wrinkle In Time series, but I guess that was probably more like when I was 9 or 10 years old...

I know you said boy, but a friend recommended the Ivy + Bean series written by Annie Barrows. She said:

It's all about an unlikely friendship that develops between a outgoing tomboy and a more introverted bookworm, so it should appeal to either group (see here for some more info on the series: http://www.anniebarrows.com/ivyandbean/)

This is not for him to read by himself, probably, but I can remember my mom reading CS Lewis to me, and loving it.

For books he can read himself, I'm no expert, but there's a view on Amazon that lets you see early reader selections... one of the books listed there Love You Forever is fabulous and dangerous - it always makes me cry!

I can't get through Love You Forever without crying! (and we have 3 copies of it!)
