what age is best to start teaching my child to read?

And what techniques work best for my 2 year old girl? She can read (spot and than verbalize) the alphabet and numbers.

    What age?  Any age - NOW.  :)  How?  Read aloud to her!!  One of my favorite children's authors is Mem Fox.  She taught teachers to teach reading for 24 years while also writing her excellent books.  They are truly a joy to read - and you can tell they were written to be read aloud!  Check out her website:
