Best non-Cable TV shows for a toddler?

0 votes

We have only broadcast TV, and are looking for some more variety for our toddler to watch. We currently record the following shows on our TiVo, and let him choose:

  • Dinosaur Train (PBS)
  • Sesame Street (PBS)
  • Sid the Science Kid (PBS)
  • Curious George (PBS)
  • Thomas & Friends (PBS)

I've noticed that there are some Saturday-morning shows airing on other channels (ABC, CBS, FOX, etc.) but don't know what the quality of them is, or where I should start. I'm looking for things that are of good production quality (as are the above shows) and offer at least a little educational value.

Over the holidays, he watched some Tom & Jerry, and some Bugs Bunny, and I think both of these are a bit over his head, as well as being not particularly current with more modern parenting values.

What other shows would be good for a toddler?

Are there any other non-cartoon shows that would be good for this age?

We don't receive Nick, Disney, Cartoon Network, etc., as these are all cable channels.

Dragon Tales. Blues Clues. Dora the Explorer. Diego.

I don't think any of those shows are on broadcast TV, are they?

Certainly Dragon Tales is since we no longer have cable. The others may be from when we did.

Bob the Builder is popular with my crew. I think Sid the Science Kid is a little old for a toddler. Sesame Street is good. Mister Rogers. Barney and Teletubbies (if you can stomach them). Arthur. Zooboomafoo (sp?) -- cute animal show.

Between the Lions on PBS seems good, but haven't seen much of it.
