gDiapers

I've read good things about gDiaper but I'm wondering if anyone has real, live experience with them.  I like the idea of diapers that don't sit in landfill for 500 years, but are they as easy (or easier!) than regular diapers?

We used gDiapers for the first 7 months or so - when she went to day care we basically switched away.

In my opinion the advantages of gDiapers are (aside from the environmental ones):

    • CUTE! so much nicer looking fabric pants than other diapers.
    • Breathable - you can tell the diaper needs changing because of a slight damp feel, but not really wet
    • Pretty easy to use, once you explain all the parts.
    • even if you don't compost the liners, it's still less stuff in the landfill

    The disadvantages are:

    • especially once you move to a bigger size, the diaper is a little bulky and some pants may be a bit tight
    • We had always little leaks and messes into the liner. Baby poo colors the plastic pretty effectively! It will however bleach just fine back to normal in sunlight, so don't scrub your fingertips off.
    • You need a good rotation of liners and pants unless you launder every day.
    • when you are out and about, changing out the messies means carefully packing into a suitable bag or wrapper. We had a bad habit of not always remembering to put those in the wash right away

They are close to as easy to put on and take off as disposables - actually maybe even more so - the velcro fastening is really nice to use. They feel more like diaper clothes than disposables. But should you go on a longer trip, I'd say definitely switch to disposables. If you are hoping to toilet train early, I think you will have an advantage with the gDiaper. It feels wetter and scrunches up more when it's whet, clearly making a case for not peeing so much into the diaper.

Once I went back to work, I found it hard to make time for all the laundering, plus we would have had to buy all new bigger pant sizes, too, so we just gave up at that point.
