Dropping out of a class

My 3.5 year old son is taking a gymnastics class with a terrible teacher.  She isn't very friendly, is critical of him doing things wrong (things like not pointing his toes when he jumps, not like running around and not listening), and just doesn't seem to get kids in general.  It is the only class time that works for us so we can't switch teachers.  He was very excited to take gymnastics.  He hates it immediately afterward but after a couple of days have elapsed he starts asking when gymnastics is again.

Should we take him out of the class and just tell him it is over?  Should we let him keep going?

It seems like neither you nor your son really enjoys being with this teacher. Perhaps you can try to find a gymnastics class at a different place. Here I would look at our community parks rec centers, ymca, gymboree, and little gym. You might also consider that when your son asks about gymnastics again, it might be about the routine (I know that my son about this age and is just starting to get the rhythm of the week and learning the days of the week.) or might be that he wants the physical activity, not necessarily the gymnastics.  So you could find a substitute activity.

By the way, I think you would do the teacher and the place she teaches at a service by offering your honest feedback, especially if you drop out because of her.

I have never regreted removing my son from a preschool class he was enrolled in that wasn't going well because of the bad teacher. Do it now! and find him a new class. Trust yourself on this.

    Good Luck!

Also, sweethi is right. tell the place what you think of this bad teacher. Save some other parents in the process.
