Frequency of swim lessons
We can sign up for swim lessons once a week, twice a week, or five times a week. What is the best frequency to teach our kids to swim? They are 3 and 5.

Our kids participted in both the once a week option and an intensive daily summer class. In the beginning, when we were just looking to create comfort with the water and not skill building, the once a week was great! When they were a little bit older (about 3-4) they went to the daily summer class offered by our town (they met daily for 2 week sessions, just a half hour each time). What a HUGE difference the daily class made in skill development. The carryover from class to class and ability to build confidence and skills without "starting over" each week was amazing. They just picked up right where they left off the previous day.
I think both options are great- it just depends on the child, age and ultimate goal. If they are comforatble in the water- maybe the daily class would boost their confidence and skill quickly.
If they are new to the water or timid, then once a week may be a better way to start, gradually.
You will know when they are ready for "more"
Have fun!

Good question! I wonder, what frequency do you think they'd enjoy it the most? Right now, we're going once a week with our one-year-old, with the goal of getting her comfortable in the water and learning to use her body in a new way - ie. not with the goal of teaching her to swim.
One thing I saw with an older boy in the class - 2 1/2 I think - was he was nervous and unhappy at the once-a-week lessons and then his mom started taking him everyday to the part of the pool that ramps down, where he can just walk in at his own pace. In a very laid back way - just there letting him do what he wanted to try - he discovered in that week how much fun the pool can be, and was an entirely different boy at the next lesson.
