Clipping baby nails
My 9-month old wiggles so much that I can't clip his nail while he is awake... He won't let me. I have to wait until he sleeps (and hope that it won't wake him up...). We had the same issue with my daughter and ended up clipping her nails during her naps for a good 2 years until she finally accepted to let us clip them while she is watching. This is ridiculous. I am sure other parents clip their baby's nails when the baby is awake. How do you do it?

Forcibly hold them still and clip maybe two fingers at a time over the course of the day or several days.

I've been able to cut my son's nails two ways - on the changing table and in my lap in the rocking chair (when it's not rocking). If he's on the changing table, I give him a toy to hold in the 'other' hand.
I've found that he'll lay/sit still if he's really tired and just in that subdued mood.
Sometimes, a firm 'no' is required to get him to lay still or only doing one hand at a time.

I remember the wiggling phase, perhaps there's solace in knowing that by 13 mos my daughter stopped wiggling when I clip her nails and has begun watching intently ;)

I second the 'forcably' hold them still and doing only a couple at a time.
I don't know at what age the following will help, but... I sing 'Where is Thumbkin' and make up suitable nail clippin lyrics. Also make sure they see you clipping your own nails! Just like brushing teeth - hopefully it will become something they want to do b/c they want to be 'big' kids.

Our 9-month old lets me cut 1 hand while he's having a bottle and then it takes me being a bit more forceful in holding his fingers to get the other hand done. Sometimes we use watching "The Wiggles" as the key to keep his focus elsewhere.

I second the advice to pin him and do 1-2 nails at a time. We've also used an emery board which takes longer but then you don't have to worry about clipping the skin. At 9 months, you might be able to start turning on the tv for him. Once we could do that, our problem was solved -- 5 minutes of Blue's Clues once a week (hopefully!) wasn't damaging for our kid and he would sit still, completely mesmorized by the tv.

I also do it when my baby is sleeping and it usually doesn't wake him up. Another way is when I'm breastfeeding. If I can't reach the other hand, I have my partner do it. I make sure that our baby knows what were doing. For toes, I usually do it while giving him a snack in the high chair. I've noticed his toes are a little more sensitive so that snack kind of distracts him, but he can see what I'm doing. After a while, he got used to it. Now he knows what were doing and sometimes he'll just stand/sit there and let me get 2-3 fingers/toes at a time. Just make sure you don't cut too short. Having them trust you is a huge thing when cutting nails.
