What's your favorite summer day camp (SF Bay Area)? Why?

I was just browsing a list of local (San Francisco Bay Area) summer camps. I remember some of my summer camps very fondly, and reflecting now, I realize that they were some of my most foundational, character-building experiences. Our kids are still a bit young, but looking ahead I wonder:

  • what are some great day camps in the SF Bay Area?
  • what do you look for to know if a camp is going to be great?
  • do you have any favorites? why?
  • how much of the summer do you schedule for you child? at what age? (what do they do the rest of the time?)

Our kids are too young for this too but I just heard about Steve and Kate's summer camp and wished I was young enough to go :-)

You basically buy “days” and kids choose what they want to do during these days between:

    • Film Studio
    • Recording Studio
    • Performing Art Studio
    • Sculpture Studio
    • Sewing Studio
    • Culinary Art Studio
    • Knitting Studio

These activities are all on the same campus. The closest one is on Fairmeadow Campus (Palo Alto).

Our seven year old Son LOVES Dentination Science  (destinationscience.org) My husband calls it toy camp because he gets to bring home all the stuff they learn about, which mostly happen to be toys. There's science behind everything!

He's done it for the last two years now and is going again this summer. There's lots of bay area locations.
