Haircut for baby
Our daughter is about ready for her first haircut! Does anyone have a reccomendation for a place to go in the south bay? (SJ, SV, MV) Is it worth the extra money to go to a special place for kids? Or is Supercuts ok? Does anyone know a good person that makes housecalls?

I'd suggest looking for a kind, patient hairdresser who smiles a lot and likes kids (and, if possible, cuts fast ;). We found that at a local place similar to Supercuts, Style N' Go this one was called, but I'm sure you could find similar most places. When we tried a place specifically for kids - in this case, the Snip Its at Town & Country in Palo Alto - we found it to be full of toys and excitement, but happened to not get a very low-key kid-loving hairdresser. Instead, our son was sad twice-over - first because he had to say goodbye to the fabulous train set, and second because the hairdresser just wouldn't/couldn't finish up quickly.

We used to take our kids to special kid places, but they didn't get very good haircuts and they were distracted by all the stuff around them. We found someone reasonably nice in a regular fairly cheap place and it is less traumatic for them and a lot cheaper.
In the early days when it was traumatic to get a haircut, we told the person that they had a minute and to do the best job they could do in that time. Sometimes we extended it to a couple of minutes, but not more than that. Was it was less traumatic for our kids, they got more time.
Make sure you can go right in. If you have to wait, go another time. Having time to sit there and get antsy will make everyone miserable.
