Dropping off kids at a birthday party
At what age should we just start dropping our kid(s) off at birthday parties and the like? Our oldest is 5 and even at his best friend's party at a venue with which he was familiar, he wanted us to stay. Is that weird? Should we encourage him to go alone?

I would have been horrified to have left a 5yrold at a party venue only 5 or so years ago.
I lived in a large city, she didn't know my cell phone, etc...
HOWEVER. I now live in a teeny tiny town where we likely know the family of the birthday kiddo fairly well? And I've totally left my current 5yrold at the local pizza place for a party.
If your kid is asking you to stay that seems like a pretty good reason to stick around. If you are comfortable with him being there without you, maybe you can offer him an option?
Mom stays with him for 20 minutes and then she has to run to the store, would he like to stay at the party at that point or run the errand with mom? Plus you can see how he/she interacts while at the party??
