How/when to tell kids we are moving?

We bought a house about an hour from where we live now.  It is in an area that we've visited but our kids (oldest is not quite 6) don't know that we were even thinking about it.  I think they will love the house because it is big and has a great yard for them, but I think they'll be sad to leave.  How and when do we tell them?  Should we have a sit-down or just be casual?  We're keeping our current place as a weekend house so they can come back to see familiar places and their friends, but I'm worried because our 3-year old isn't very good at transitions and our 5-year old loves his school.

In case you're unaware, we've gotten an answer to this on the blog (http://blog.parentsguild.com/2010/04/daily-q-how-when-to-tell-kids-were-moving/)... hope it helps!

I agree with the blog answer, the earlier the better, and even better if you can show them the house as soon as possible. Or if you can't show them the house, show them a picture when you tell them.

If it were me, I'd frame it as, "Hey, we have a huge surprise for you! It's some really great news. How would you like a much bigger yard and a whole new house to explore?"
